Week 14: Running Back Round Up
Every week, I examine the most turbulent backfields to determine whether a backup is due for a bigger role and how any possible changes will affect Fantasy relevant stars. Here’s my take heading into Week 14.
DeAngelo Williams – Jonathan Stewart – Fozzy Whitaker – Mike Tolbert
This Panthers squad is truly abysmal. Outside of rookie receiver Kelvin Benjamin there hasn’t been much opportunity for fantasy owners. A backfield full of aging also-rans with durability concerns, Carolina’s collection of RBs should be draped in yellow caution tape. That said, the 27 year-old Stewart has flashed this season and reminded managers of his previous potential. He’s certainly fared better than committee member DeAngelo Williams, averaging 4.2 YPC to DWill’s 3.5 YPC. In the Panthers 31-13 loss at Minnesota last Sunday, Stewart once again proved he could more productive than Williams when given the chance, rushing five more times and racking up 64 more yards than his 31 year-old teammate. In that game Williams broke his finger and will be sidelined for Carolina’s tilt against New Orleans in Week 14. As such, Stewart should receive the bulk of the carries and offers a limited amount of flex appeal for desperate fantasy managers. It’s worth noting that Fozzy Whitaker will be spelling Stewart and Mike Tolbert has the potential to vulture goal line looks. Stewart’s value will be largely dependent on game flow and should only be rolled out when all other options have been exhausted.
Isaiah Crowell – Terrance West
After spending a good portion of the season chanting “Feed The Crow!” it seems fantasy owners are finally getting their wish…
